Granola at the office: a breakfast benefit

Next year's budget closes faster than you think — and granola in the office kitchen is one of the few benefits a CFO will love straight away. Employers can subsidise employee meals up to PLN 450 per month per person with no social security contributions. If you're in HR or Office Management and you're looking for something that fits the budget, can be rolled out before the New Year, and doesn't need an hour of explaining to the board — read on.

Why Q4 is the last call for a breakfast benefit in the office

A benefit rolled out in December is up and running from January. A benefit rolled out in March means three months of missed social security savings and three months without the ritual that brings the team together over coffee. The market has matured — companies are actively looking for products to implement before the board approves the cost plan. Q4 is the moment when a new budget line still fits. After that, it's "maybe next year".

PLN 450 per month with no social security contributions: how granola fits into a food benefit

Regulations allow employers to subsidise employee meals up to PLN 450 per month per person — with no social security contributions on the employer's side and no deductions on the employee's side. In other words: cheaper than a net cash pay rise, and the effect in the kitchen is visible straight away.

[3][4]

A question every HR professional asks will come up shortly: does granola even count as a "meal"? According to the current interpretive approach — yes. A meal includes products that require no further processing: sandwiches, yoghurts, fruit, salads. Granola as a ready-to-eat product falls into this category.

[5]

The good news: implementation is simpler today than it was a few years ago — social security authorities increasingly accept modern control mechanisms instead of a folder full of paper receipts. Experts do recommend applying for an individual ruling from the social security authority, however. It is the only effective safeguard against retrospective contribution assessments, and the whole process typically takes around a month. It's worth starting now.

What actually lands in the office kitchen

Pure&Sweet granola with no added sugars — open it, put it on the counter, done. Zero cooking, zero logistics on the HR side, one VAT invoice to process as a food benefit.

  • No added sugars — ready to serve, no preparation required
  • VAT invoice for your company — goes straight to the books as a nutritional benefit
  • Recurring B2B delivery — set the schedule once, then the granola arrives on its own
  • Sample before you commit — try it first, then order regularly

Shared breakfast: team-building at the price of granola

A few minutes at the same table, a bowl of granola on the counter and a conversation that doesn't start with Slack. No event budget, no facilitator with a flipchart. People who eat together find it easier to solve problems when they get back to their desks — HR knows it, and the CFO will appreciate it once they see the price tag.

A fair warning: "building team atmosphere" is a soft argument that doesn't fit into a spreadsheet. Treat it as a bonus — the main conversation with the CFO revolves around ZUS relief and a lower total cost than a cash pay rise. Wellbeing in the quarterly report is just the cherry on top.

Four steps HR can sort out before the holidays

  1. November — budget decision: you enter "nutritional benefit — breakfast granola" into the cost plan. Amount: up to PLN 450 per employee per month with no ZUS contributions. Argument for the CFO: lower total cost than a net cash pay rise.
  2. November–December — documentation: benefit policy, employees' digital declarations and — as recommended by experts — an application for an individual ZUS ruling. Processing time: approx. one month, so the sooner the better.
  3. December — B2B sample: you fill in the form at pureandsweet.pl/b2b, agree on the pack size and schedule, and receive a quote and a proforma invoice. One afternoon's work.
  4. January — launch: granola appears in the kitchen from the first week of the new year. The benefit is up and running from day one of the new budget, and you can tick it off your list.

How much does it cost? A quick answer for busy people

We don't quote figures we don't have — instead, we give you a calculation framework that you can fill in after getting in touch with us.

The most common HR questions about granola as a nutritional benefit (ZUS, invoice, MOQ)

  • Does granola qualify as a meal according to ZUS regulations? — Under the current interpretive guidelines, a meal is a product that requires no additional processing. Granola as a ready-to-eat product falls into this category. Even so, we recommend applying for an individual ZUS ruling — because only that gives you real protection.
  • Do unused funds roll over to the next month? — Experts recommend spending on a current basis. Granola in the kitchen every week solves that problem before you even notice it.
  • Do I need to collect receipts from employees? — No. ZUS accepts modern control mechanisms: technical card locks, system-based reporting, supplier audits. No cardboard folders full of receipts.

Who this article is for

You are an HR Manager, Office Manager, or the person who just got the task of "do something great with benefits" — and you have until the end of Q4 to do it. You are looking for a product that fits within the food benefit limit exempt from ZUS contributions, arrives on a VAT invoice, and does not require you to babysit the fridge every week. If that sounds like you, you've come to the right place. And if your company is still among the half of the market that hasn't implemented a food benefit yet — Q4 is the last call before the budget closes and the topic comes back around next year.
